Brazilians are fun, warm and party animals. But once you get close enough you discover that they are chauvinist, conservative and full of prejudices. They hate when a foreigner asks why such a lovely country is so unfair.

They love to resemble Americans while not showing much interest in other near countries, like Argentina or Chile. They don’t have any interest in politics at all, even by what happens in their neighborhood.

They have many friends in social networks, but they often don’t even know their neighbors’ names. Social violence is everywhere but their way of dealing with it is individual. They try to protect themselves building high walls with barbed wire on the top of them. Walking through the streets feels like you’re entering a city of small penitentiaries. They have a kind of a blackish filmy window in their cars to try to protect them from robbers.

They accept corruption as a cultural phenomenon, complaining every now and then. Again, they do nothing to solve their problems. They seem to be pretty busy talking about football or asking when and where they’ll have another party. Despite all the odds, it’s a wonderful place with a wonderful people but that’s the problem.

Though the place and the people, Brazil is not a nation.

Quando a Dilma anunciou seus ministros, vi admirado o nome do Palocci. Ele caiu no governo Lula e voltou no da Dilma! Com a mesma cara lavada. Políticos são assim, corporativistas. E mostram, mais uma vez, que só se importam com a opinião pública quando precisam dos votos. Uma vez em Brasília, estão pouco se lixando. Ter uma presidenta é um feito e tanto, sinal da modernidade, o que é muito bacana. Mas no caso do Brasil, é só isso. O resto continua o mesmo. Os mesmos políticos, a mesma corrupção, a mesma falta de mudanças reais, como eleições sem a obrigação do voto e com menos partidos, por exemplo. Sem falar da reforma tributária. O Brasil é um país com uma das piores distribuições de renda de todo o mundo e, no entanto, tem uma das mais altas cargas tributárias mundiais. Mas nada muda de verdade. Aqueles políticos de esquerda, que até foram presos políticos, conseguiram chegar ao poder. E o que fizeram? Ficaram ricos. Exatamente como os que estavam por lá.

A culpa não é da corrupção. Qualquer um ficaria tentado a enriquecer em pouco tempo. Políticos não são seres desonestos por natureza. O homem é. Eles só fazem isso porque sabem que não serão punidos. Por isso, não acredito em ninguém. Em Brasília não há virgens.

Voto nulo desde 1994. Nem é protesto, é resignação. Estou pouco me lixando com os políticos, muito menos ainda nas eleições.
